Turbo Cider Yeast Comparision
Turbo Cider Yeast Comparision
Just thought i would comment on my latest experiment.
i have brewed 2x28l batches of turbo recently using the green carton te*co stuff.
in one i used youngs lager yeast and in the other i used WLP775 english cider yeast (both had 6g of Oak added at the start of fermentation).
i must say both of these are my best turbo's yet but the WLP775 is better still.
having previously used champagne, hock, bread, super wine compound and all purpose yeast these latest batches are far superior.
dry but they are not as tart and have kept more of the apple-ly flavor.
OG was 1048ish and the fg is about 1004 (so very slightly sweeter than previously encountered). i fermented over about 2 weeks at ambient temp in my brewing cupboard (guessing around 15-18C)
cheers

I would definitely recommend

i poured boiling water over the oak and left for a minute or so before chucking it in. you can taste the oak and i may even chuck a bit more in now its maturing.
BTW if anyone is interested if you PM me you address i will send you a vial of the WLP775 to try (as long as its not everyone! first come first come sort of thing).
DISCLAIMER: i will sterilize the vials to my normal routine and will take no responsibility for a 'bad' batch of turbo.

It's vigorous stuff

I recieved the vial yesterday

By 9pm last night it was fermenting that vigorously it was trying to climb out of my starter jar

Thanks again Des

I have just barreled 25 litres of turbo cider which was made with the WLP775 yeast supplied by deadlydes.
The resulting cider is amazing
it is poles apart from the regular tc.
It looks, smells and tastes like premium cider
and I don't mean anything available from a can
And it has to mature a bit yet
