TC were have I gont wrong?

Post by Chrismetallica1 » Mon Aug 17, 2009 1:10 pm

OK,
Decided to run a couple batches of turbo cider. The first batch needed to be racked today into the second fermentation with the extra sugar. I syphoned it into my sceond brew barrel and checked the alcohol contednt with my alcometer (About 6%). it was still cloudy but i gess it will settle in the second fermentation. It smells like cider. However tastes like nothing on earth. It is slightly sour with a vinegar taste. Have I gone wronge somwere? I sterilised all the items I used and used an air lock with cheap vodka in to keep the nastys out? Will this taste go away on the second fermentation or is it all ruined?

Kind regards

Chris

Vinegar or pear drop?

Expect a slight vinegar taste - give it a couple of weeks and it will be fine.

If it was a vinegar infection you wouldn't be able to swallow the stuff [-X

right what recipe have you used dreadskins are fantastic without the grated bramleys
tannin content
i have used the cheapest ingredients i can find with no concern for ites and ates and have produced ciders at 7.5% that are clear and have a slight fizz
im now working on more sustained fizz and a head on the cider

Never seen a sustained ring of bubbles on a cider head either!
