turbo cider
turbo cider
been reading all the threads on TC and was wondering has anyone tried using any different juices, for example mixed fruit and stuff like that and do you use brewing sugar or normal cane sugar
Take my advice and make it without sugar to start withpongobilly wrote:deffinately gonna give it a go, whats hthe exact recipies and instructions for making it then, do i need to just buy 2 demijohns and an airlock to make it and is it normal sugar or brewing sugar and which is the best yeast to use

Using any basic apple juice from concentrate, the supermarkets own budget brands are the best value will normally give you around 6% alcohol

Basically yes 2 demijohns and airlocks, apple juice and yeast.
Sanitise your demijohns and airlocks, add 3 litres of apple juice and the yeast. Shake the cr4p out of it to aerate, fit the airlock.
Stand back and watch

When the initial vigorous fermentation has subsided top up with apple juice.
Allow it to ferment out, let it clear if you can wait that long

The best yeast is white labs wlp 775, it is truly amazing.
But as a stand by use any good ale yeast as IMO the wine yeasts leave the cider too dry.
5l water bottle as a your fermenter, with a airlock on.
And cane sugar to increase the fermentables, I dont have my TC recipy to hand as I'm out on the road, but if you search the TC threads there are a huge range of recipies. Its also a quick an easy way to get your head around the fermentation process without any real cost (well appart from to your brain cells
)
Members on the forum have tried just about every form of yeast on their TCs from fresh and dried bread yeast to various wine yeast though I think TS and Des seem to have found a good ale yeast to use, cant remeber which mind.
Good luck, just remember "if you can ferment it, dosnt mean you will want to drink it!!"
My Hard lemonade turned out like fizzy battery acid.

(Edit) What Tubby shaw just said ignore my post

It was his recipe originally and he discovered WLP775

I just had some WLP 775 off of him, thanks Des

turbo cider (what sugar)
when using sugar in turbo cider, which sugar do i use, is it brewing sugar
Re: turbo cider (what sugar)
Use any sugar that takes your fancy.pongobilly wrote:when using sugar in turbo cider, which sugar do i use, is it brewing sugar
If you use any taseless sugar, i.e. cane, glucose etc it will thin out what is already a dry drink and IMHO make it less palatable.
Flavoured sugars such as demerara or muscavado or honey may be better as they will add flavour as well as alcohol.
Go ahead experiment and enjoy
