Afternoon.
I've made a batch of elderflower cordial as well as champagne and was wondering if it would be a good idea to drop in a crushed up campden tablet to stop any wild yeasts kicking off fermentation.
Anyone ever tried this?
Elderflower Cordial - Campden tabs
Re: Elderflower Cordial - Campden tabs
I made a batch this year, alongside my champagne.
I doubt you'll need a campden, but then it probably wouldn't hurt it either.
I boiled my elderflowers with sugar and lemon, then left it to infuse in the pan (lid on) and then transferred into sterilised glass bottles. I'd be pretty surprised if any fermentation get underway in it now.

no it will only make it longer for the cordial wine to get going, and i recon will give u a terrible hangover. the cordial should be sterile, and all ur equipment too. i make this all the time as its so easy to put together. tho i advise adding a wee bit of yeast nutrient

I think you've misunderstood a bit Mr. Skin.
I've made a Champagne which is still bubbling away merrily, but I've put the campden tabs in a cordial which I don't want to ferment at all.
I'll give it a taste in a few days.
