Turbo punch?

Post by mattg187 » Mon Sep 13, 2010 6:53 pm

Hello everyone, hope you're all nice and merry

I was wondering if i could get some advice.

I've been making homebrew beer (kits) for the last couple of months and thought i'd try something different. So i emptied 12 litres of fruit drink concentrate (6 cranberry and raspberry and 6 orange, they were 4 for £3 at tesco) into my fermenter, with 3 teaspoons of youngs super yeast and 1 teaspoon of pectineae or something sounding like that and about 20 teaspoons of sugar.

I wasn't expecting much to be fair but 3 days on and its fizzing like a mofo and my place stinks of alcohol!! Anyway does this sound ok, or have i done something wrong... should i add more sugar.

I am really new to this and your help would be appreciated

ok ok its been 3 days and the alcohol level is at 9.1%. Its smelling my place out and at the moment it doesn't smell nice, but it doesn't smell rotton. I've heard that the yeast eats all the sugar in the fruit so i've just added some more, about quarter of a bag and it started violently fermenting again straight away! I'm really thinking i should add some water to this but i don't know if its too late or whether it will spoil things?? I've also added a cup of strong tea as well.

I wouldn't add water, leave it be and let it ferment out.
Give it a bit of time in FV and let it mature a while in bottles after that, then drink and enjoy

Thanks spud... to be fair when I brewed some cider about a month ago, I remember that smelling pretty bad to start with then it was nice. I will take your advice and hope for the best

Like spud says, just give it plenty of time to mature and you never know, you might just get the best drink of your life.

Thank you.... you lot are really helpful. :) its now at 10.1% but its getting cold in my place now so I'm not expecting much more. I'm thinking of racking it into another fv leaving for 3 or 4 days then bottling... just to get rid of more sediment. This is just my first experiment after all. I've posted this thread twice if anyone thinks I'm an idiot its just cuz never used forums before lol ill let you know how it turns out

Time is your friend, leave it if you can.
What you really need to do is brew like feck and then you wont need to be drinking it out of the FV.
I reckon I must have 60 bottles of wine/mead, 20 TC and 150 of AG beer.
Time to be getting a grew on :)

Yeah I've still got 8 bottles and when I checked them this morning (with a clear head, surprising with how mashed I was last night) they were bubbling a little. I'll leave them for 3 weeks now hopefully taste will improve. I'm gonna start new batch on Friday.. just considering what juice to use. :)

CAUTION! If they're bubbling in the bottles there is potential for bursting.Put them somewhere cool and where spillage/glass shards can do no harm.Welcome and good luck.

Thanks I've realised that lol I released some of the pressure this morning, they were a bit too firm. I've decided I'm gonna try pineapple juice next. My missus asked for cranberry and to be fair I don't think I like that. I'll start it Friday :D
