Bottling Turbo Cider

Post by dwhyte » Sat Sep 25, 2010 11:28 am

I have just made my first batch of TC. Smells good!

What is it likely to ferment down to, I know it can ferment right out? It started at OG 1045.
Is it advisable to bottle it at about 1005 and let the residual sugars give the bottle condition or is there too much still to ferment and give a bottle bomb?

Or, let if ferment right out, prime and bottle?

It often ferments to 1000 or even 998. I often bottle at higher gravity and let the remaining sugar do the work. I also use PET bottles which are safer and can stand the pressure. The other advantage is that you can squeeze them to so how much they have carbonated. Have a look at this thread. viewtopic.php?f=13&t=35802

johns approach is right, id look at 4 points above fg max though, the new lightweight beatson and clark bottles are primarilly intended for single use,so be careful if using second hand ones.id always use glass over P.E.T.if possible

if your using thicker older ones you should be fine

we pasturise the cider we make once its got to the correct carbonation to stop it fermenting right out and leave some sweetness

i was highly skeptical of this approach, but the managing director of vigo explained the process to us(hes a craft cider maker) our first batch is ready this week so ill be able to fill you in on how it worked

pasturisation is easy enough to do with a thermomitor and an insulated vessel with a lid
