I bought a kit wine to make this weekend and was wondering if I needed to make a yeast starter? If so do I just use some of the grape juice provided in the kit to get it going? If I do use grape juice then should I give it a blast in the microwave first?
I have only made kit beer before.
Kit wine - yeast starter?
Re: Kit wine - yeast starter?
All the wine kits I have ever used just suggest sprinkling the yeast on top, no starter required.
Hope this helps

No, unless it says so in the instructions I wouldn't bother. Kind of depends what kit your using and whether your using the yeast that comes with it or not. Also on the volume you are making.verno wrote:I bought a kit wine to make this weekend and was wondering if I needed to make a yeast starter?
If it was 5 gallon, I would consider a starter, but not for 1 gallon.
If I had bought another packet of yeast in place of the kit one then I would follow the instructions on that packet.

Thanks all, its a 1 gallon Kenridge Shiraz kit. It does just say sprinkle, so thats what I will do.
I have this one and a californian connoiseur kit. I have high hopes and am planning on putting them down for 6 months (well maybe try it at christmas).
