hello all
i have a gallon of wine that i have filtered and transfered to another demijohn.
i now need to clear the wine by adding finings, i purchased youngs wine finings satchet a*b from wilkinsons but find this treats 5 gallons.
it would be a bit akward trying to use just one fith of finnings is there something else i could use ???
local homebrew shop sells bentonite but not sure if this is the correct stuff to use.
thank you
finnings to treat just one gallon of wine.
Re: finnings to treat just one gallon of wine.
From what I can gather I think kwik clear comes in an easier to use format so perhaps investigate that.
I think bentonite is supposed to be added before fermentation (i.e. as an ingredient). Also, you say you have filtered so I am wondering why you need finings?
Make sure the wine is degassed fully and then perhaps leave it a little while longer. Maybe add some pectic enzyme in case it is a pectic based haze that filtering won't get rid of?

In the past I have opened finnins and put each section in a small zip lock type bag,
and then used a pippet to drip roughly a quarter of the bag into a gallon demi.
Youngs finnins from wikios are just chemicals and I dont think they go off... thou its always good to seal them to stop them becomming contanimated.
Im no expert but its always worked for me... i guess it all depends on how long it will be till ur next brew!
