While looking for a recipe for ginger beer that actually tastes nice I came across this site:
http://www.herbalbeers.com/recipes
Oh that site below ginger beer there is a recipe for mungwort beer and wormwood beer.
The little warning on both caught my attention “its a pretty good buzz, so drink in the safety of your own homeâ€. After a little research I found that mungwort and wormwood are the same thing and is the active ingredient that makes absinthe so potent.
I found you can get wormwood/mungwort on ebay for about £1 per 100g …
So I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience either drinking absinthe or brewing with wormwood?
Wormwood (Absinthe) Beer
Re: Wormwood (Absinthe) Beer
I have just started an apple wine whch i'm hoping to get around a 14% abv, which after boiling and condensing
will hopefully end up as 2 litres of 40& abv
I then plan on storing the 2 x 1 litre bottles for a year but with 1 containing Misoma root bark and the other containing woormwood.
I'll let you know in about a year how they trun out if im still alive

Re: Wormwood (Absinthe) Beer
If you search wiki for Wormwood, there is a fantastic historical quote (although it doesn't mention who said it)
Absinthe makes you crazy and criminal, provokes epilepsy and tuberculosis, and has killed thousands of French people. It makes a ferocious beast of man, a martyr of woman, and a degenerate of the infant, it disorganizes and ruins the family and menaces the future of the country.
That makes it worth a try in my book!!

Sorry second2none - I seem to have dragged this thread off-topic a bit
Re: Wormwood (Absinthe) Beer
interesting! one of my polish friends mentioned wormwood before but didnt know you could still get it! sounds a bit scary but interesting!
Re: Wormwood (Absinthe) Beer
Yes Scarey but Interesting is how i'd sum it up!
Im still very unsure of whether to give it a go or not and if Jeremy Kyle is against it then .... hahaa
And as for J.K's Quote (which I love by the way) surely that can be used to discribe any spirt!
"Makes degenerate of the infant" WHAT KIND OF PERSON WOULD ACTUALLY GIVE CHILDREN ABSINTHE???
One thing that puts me off making it is that I dont know when I'd actually drink it,
maybe if I was still at uni, or had a party planned.
