2 x 1.5l bottles of aldi apple and blackcurrant, i added 2kg of plain white sugar and a teason of yeast and yeast nutrient.
i put juice and half sugar into a big pot and brought to the boil then simmer for 20 minutes, the other half of the sugar went into the fv along with some boiling water. stirred it all together and topped to 23 litres with cold water, then added yeast and nutrient. leave for week to ten days and when fermentation complete i bottle it using 1 teaspoon of sugar in each bottle.
2 btls juice = 2 x 95p = £1.90
2kg sugar = 2 x 85p = £1.70
40 x 5g sugar = 200g @ 85p/kg = 17p
add the cost of yeast and nutrient, both youngs variety and it really comes in at under £4 for 40 pints = 10p per pint = happy days.
this much sugar will bring the alcohol content to around the 6% mark when you add the bottling sugar.
got some bottling to do then i can start another batch, orange and lemon i think this time.
i am always on the lookout for new varieties but they do need to be relatively cheap or i wont bother, i wont pay £2 for a bottle of juice which will only make me 5 litres.

Re: Squash Cider
just bottled up 34 bottles + 5l mini keg of apple & blackcurrant squash. lovely smell and colour, will be ready for consumption in a few days but they get better if you leave them for a couple of weeks.
gonna get my next back on in next few days. orange and lemon this time.

Re: Squash Cider thread revival! Trouble with carbonation
Having made this several times and everyone loving it I have one issue.
Can't seem to get the carbonation right.
I put 6g sugar in 500ml bottle and sometimes it carbonates perfectly others are just flat.
I also put 24g in 2l bottles and none have carbonated??
Am I fermenting too long as sometimes they can take well over 2 weeks to stop bubbling?
Fg is about 0.960
