My housemate and i just mixed up a Magnum Apple Cider kit but only used a total of 18l of instead of the 23 suggested by the kit. We did this because our experience so far is that we have brewed some bland watery beers and so thought we would try and give this more body.
Appart from raising the ABV, what will the consequenses of this be? Will it be drinkable? OG was about 1.052.
We only put the yeast in about an hour ago, is it too late to add more water if you think it is required?
Stupidly i added the apple flavouring at this early stage will this have an affect?
Thanks in advance for your advice,
Sam
Magnum Apple Cider - Urgent
Re: Magnum Apple Cider - Urgent
The consequences should be a better pint of cider. I always made cider kits up to 32 pints, which is about 18L... the canned concentrate just doesn't have the guts to make 40 pints, it works much better made up to 32.sjbrook wrote:Appart from raising the ABV, what will the consequenses of this be? I wouldn't think the apple flavouring is fermentable, so it shouldn't make a great deal of difference when you add it.
I would leave everything as it is, and let the yeast do it's stuff!

Cheers, Sparky Paul, i am relieved to hear that. I will sleep tonight rest assured that all is well.
Re: Magnum Apple Cider - Urgent
I did the Elderflower kit to the full 40 pints, I'll admit it came out a little watery, I think doing it to 32 pints is the way to go.

The consequence should be to get hammered - thats why we're all here!!!!
