Raspberry Wheat Beer - Priming Question

Post by nicksonic » Fri Jun 17, 2011 1:31 pm

hi all, i'm about to bottle my raspberry wheat beer which i've made from adding 1.2kg of raspberries to a brewferm tarweiber kit at the secondary fermentation stage.

i usually bulk prime into another FV with a 'little bottler'. my question is - in the interests of removing as much sediment as possible, can i bulk prime into the FV and then leave it to settle for a day or two before bottling? i've been led to believe you shouldn't do this since the CO2 developed in the first 2 fermentation stages will be lost, but is this actually an issue since a third fermentation will take place in the bottle anyway?

thanks for your help,

nick

As soon as you introduce the priming sugar to the beer...........bottle it. Otherwise you are wasting your time . You may as well just add less sugar later. You will always have sediment in the bottle.

Many people transfer to a secondary vessel for settling.........most of them mistakenly call it secondary fermentation, but no fermentation is taking place unless you transferred before the primary was completed. Personally I feel a secondary is a waste of time unless to are making additions to the beer.
