Turbo Perry!

Post by maxashton » Sat Apr 21, 2007 9:25 pm

Just having a go at turbo perry. Bought five litres of peach juice from Lidl, boiled up 1 with a bit of muscovado, demijohn'd it and topped off to a gallon.

Pitched S-04 and yeast-vit, cause it's what i've got. ;)

Yes, but i wasnt' aware of a drink of this nature made with peaches.

Perry tends to be in the region of about 12%, and with the OG being around 1060, i felt it more appropriate than cider.

I guess it could be considered country wine, depending on how it ferments out.

Interestingly, the kreusen appears to have sunk. I dont mean disappeared, it would appear to be a half centimeter BELOW the surface of the liquid. The stuff on top is almost clear, and is a lovely peach orangey colour.

I can't seem to get a decent picture of it, so i might have a go tomorrow in sunlight.

FWIW Max if it was the peach nectar stuff from Lidl and you have boiled it with the sugar you will have fixed the pectin in the fruit and will end up with a drink that is cloudy and will not clear :(
But not to worry just use it as a base for a Bbq cocktail 8)
It is also my intention to buy some pear juice and pulp stuff from Lidl today and a huge container of pectolase from the HBS, hopefully the pectolase will help to break down the pulp and extract the flavour :)
Then we will see if it is possible to produce turbo perry :?
