I'm going looking for nettles tomorrow but don't expect to find enough for more than 1 gallon now they're starting to flower, and I do like to split my yeast sachets across 2 demis, so...
I thought I'd do a fruit tea bag wine with the junk from the back of the hot drinks cupboard
But it turns out we only have 9 bags (Tetley summer berry) which is a bit on the low side, so I had a dig around and all I could find to stick in for more flavour was some Capri Sun sachets (tropical). And we're out of grape juice and raisins but we have a load of sultanas.
9 summer berry bags, 800ml or maybe a litre of Capri Sun, maybe a pound of sultanas, nutrient, sugar, yeast
Think it'll work?
Think there's enough tannin in the sultanas or should I whack in a PGTips as well?
Sugar... 2lb8oz minus the sultanas and CapriSun... Um...

Re: Tidying up the cupboard
Cant see any reason it wouldn't - though im not too sure about using herbal tea bags as a base (I find they smell like heaven and taste like mouldy ass
which is a real shame; only ones i've found to deliver the goods they promise are peppermint and apple & cinnamon ones)
Probably wont hurt to boost the tannin either.
2lb 8 od sugar as well as the naturals ? thats going to be potent

Re: Tidying up the cupboard
nonono there's an entire subculture devoted to wine-from-teabags (over on thehomebrewforum), apparently it's reet nice (and saves messing with RealIngredients, so sort of a TurboWine). I'm just a bit short on teabags....
It's only so as not to waste yeast, honest.
And I said 2lb8oz MINUS the other stuff. Just need to work out how much they have...

Re: Tidying up the cupboard
Well in the end I couldn't fit all the nettles I picked into 1 FV so I'm doing 2 gallons of that and stuff the teabags - for now.
Last year's nettle was done with half a gallon of tops, and this year's was a gallon (each) pushe down but not too hard, so should be at least as tasty.
Last year I simmered them then strained onto everything else
This year I'm going to ferment on the leaves for the first few days, so I did this:
Into fermenting bucket: crushed Campden, tsp nutrient, tsp citric, tsp tartaric, lump of ginger in roughly 4mm cubes, 2oz sultanas roughly chopped, nettles, 2lb8oz sugar
Poured in 3litres boiling water
Will pitch yeast tomorrow when Campden has worked its magic, and strain to demi on Saturday or Sunday.

Uh-oh
20 hours after pitching the yeast in these nettles, nada.
Hmmmm.
Will give it to tomorrow lunch and if still nowt, will bung it all into a big pan, give it a good simmer, then cool and repitch.
