What requirements for Apple Juice for TC?

Post by kenmc » Sun Jun 03, 2007 12:53 am

So was thinking of making a TC for the hell of it.
What are the requisites for the apple juice - obviously no preservatives etc.
Should it be from concentrate or not? All the stuff i see in tesco is 'from concentrate'. any suggestions gratefully accepted!
Cheers

100% juice and your good to go.
Concentrate works. From what I have read/tried juice is pretty much juice as far as brands. I go with the cheapest I can find.

If you can avoid concentrate it would presumably be fresher tasting.

All you need is 100% apple juice :D
The difference is the same as the difference between instant coffee and freshly ground beans or malt extract beer and all grain
IMHO most pub cider drinkers can't tell the difference, real cider drinkers can :D

Lidl apple juice from concentrate (green carton) works really well. It's a nice golden brown colour and costs 87p for 1.5 litrers. I think this is one of the nicest cheep apple juices.

100% juice(concentrate) is OK.
Find the brand that tastes best for you.
I have used 5 brands and now found the one best for my taste.
The sugar contents can also be different,so check them out.

By far the most important thing for me,after some necking of vast amounts of TC,has been the yeast used.
I now use only a cider yeast. For me it is brilliant.
They say champagne yeast is good, I have a packet, but not used yet.
Jury still out on this one.

A tip from Frothy that works well for me ...prime with apple juice not sugar.
It dilutes the alc % a tad, but not too much. Adds a little more apple taste which tends to be brewed out.
I add 200ml to 3 litres of TC.
I do not like fizz and have a leaning towards a medium dry cider.
Its a test and try until you get the right combination.

For special events I now brew 25 litres a shot.
For my own consumption its more like 30 litres a shot:roll: .
Love the stuff  .
