Hi guys,
I'm just about to rack for the 48 hour clearing period, i've done this for beer before before bottling and just used the coopers fermenter with the loose lid. Would this lid be okay to use for the wine when clearing for 48 hours, or do i need a tight lid and airlock, it's just i dont have one yet.

This reply will be wildly out of date but hope it helps prospective brewers...
Air locks reduce the risk of one of the biggest problems, when making wine, which is untimely oxidation. And when it does happen, an air lock will also help to prevent large particles, like dust, getting in the wine so even if the wine does oxidise, at least it'll be clean. White wine from varieties that aim to be fruit-forward are particularly susceptible, e.g. Sauvignon Blanc.
If you don't have an air lock, it's even more important to keep the temperature low (like 6 or 8C, not just the normal 13C).
