If you can exclude all air from the pack, then seal it in some way, then put it into another plassy bag and put it in the freezer, it "should" be Ok for a couple of weeks......

It's not so much that it "dies off", it's the oxygen in the air that affect it, and the warmer the temp, the worse it's likely to be......

When you want to use the rest of it, just make a bit of a starter to confirm that it's still viable......
