Somewhat experimental TCs

Post by Crossbow » Thu Nov 29, 2007 5:09 pm

Tomorrow, I plan to start a couple more TCs....

One with finely sliced apple, to see what effect it has (if any) on flavour

One with root ginger, since ginger goes so well with cider.

Anyone have any thoughts before I start?

All TC is experimental.

Sounds good though. I now think of you as a scholar after my own heart.

Not tried mine yet.

It had a warm week and has been in the garage ever since. Must pop a bottle and see. I'll let you know.

Thanks, its just that ive never re-used a slurry yet so wondered if it had kicked off ok but sounds like it has.Did you do it as soon as you had removed the ginger ale as I did mine yesterday and wont be able to get any apple juice till tomorrow night. The slurry has a good 3/4'' covering of ginger ale slops so am hoping it will be ok to top up then.

I always pitch directly onto the slurry.

The covering of ginger beer will help but I think it's the carbon dioxide that really protects it. Fingers crossed.

Well, due to a juice shortage at tesco :( I only started the ginger one on friday...... and today while topping up, I had a sneaky taste.......

My first impression was WOW. It has a really intense ginger smell and taste, with the apple/cider taste decidedly in the background. If it wasn't for the fact its so murky, I'd probably have a glass tonight :P

Well, the TC with apple is still on hold...
But todays experimental TC has 300g of fresh cranberries, which promises to be interesting :)

Bottled the Ginger TC today..... Far too much ginger flavour and bite (and as dry as the provebial things wossname :P) I've blended it with a batch of plain TC, and its much improved, so looking forward to few of those in a week or so :) I used 185g of root ginger, so next time, I'll try 80g or so
Now trying another batch of TC with the ginger slurry :)
TC with added apple is also underway.... 3 litres of juice with a bag of Tesco value apples.
