I have made a huge Steak and Ale pie every year for New Yrs day.
I suppose everyone has their own recipe and methods
Best thing to a steak and ale pie is the flavor, get it right and your guests will want more.
Its a recipe that has been passed down so never fails. :D

Cooking duration seems to be key here.

the last twice I have attempted one, the meat has become really grainy, and dry which has totally put me off - could never work out if it was under cooked or over cooked, sounds like under!

P.S My mouth was literally watering reading some of those posts!!

I cook mine in a pot on simmer low heat for 3 hrs and it has that melt in your mouth, nothing worse than chewing on hard steak or Beef.
I was once fed tripe as a young child and believe me I would prefer to eat a worm than eat that stuff. Just the thought of it makes me feel ill
