How did I miss this thread ? I've been looking for this info for ages. I love making curries, but they are never anything like the ones you get from a good curry house.
Thanks for the info.

Howdy Spin. Join up and get cooking. You will be amazed. You will also feel quite smug!!
Re: Making Indian restaurant/take away style curry at home
I regularly do curry nights for my friends. My curry is ok but nothing to write home about.
I'll keep quiet and surprise them with a proper curry next time. Hopefully I can make it happen .

I just cooked my first BIR curry tonight. It was a fairly basic Madras recipe and it came out great.
I wasn't expecting much with it being my first attempt, but it was really nice.

It does make you realise just how much oil you are eating though. But at least you know there aren't any added colourings, chemicals, MSG etc.
My friend said it's the best meal I've cooked yet and it's usually really hard to get any positive comments out of him.
Now, what to cook next ???

Looks great. Go for CA's Dhansak next... It's superb. UP's Garlic Chili Chicken is super too.
Re: Making Indian restaurant/take away style curry at home
I'll do that, as long as the recipe isn't too complicated. The photo's you have taken of your own efforts make my mouth water. Can't wait to try them. I also want to try making Pilau rice.
Looking at you photo's, I don't think I blended my sauce smooth enough. I left a little bit lumpy as I thought that was how it was meant to be. But yours looks a niced consistency.

Yep, it should be smooth. Won't make much difference to flavour though. I whiz with a hand blender for a good few mins.
I'm out of base sauce at the min and there's no room in the freezer for another batch. Damn!

Tonight I made Chicken Tikka Masala from THIS recipe, except I didn't add the honey.
And I marinated my chicken from THIS recipe.
Defiantely a nice dish.
The chicken bbq'd as a starter is also very nice.
This is the second time I made this CTM and I have adapted the recipe to the wifes taste by:
Omiting the honey
1/2 the measure of ground almonds
a 1" x 2" knob of butter in a splash of oil instead of ghee

Mmm. Sounds great. Will put it on to my 'to cook' list. Knocked myself up a madras on Friday night. Made some chapati bread too. Took no time at all and tasted as good as (if not better) than my local take aways.

Chicken Tika Masala (minus the red food colouring)
Washed down with several pints of GHB (geezah's home brew)
