What have people used this for and in what sort of quantities? Is it good in conjunction with other grains or are the properties lost?

I found myself with some of this, basically it can be used in place of crystal but it doesn't add colour (or at least as much colour). I believe it can add body and head retention, while added sweetness to balance high hop beers.
