Poor brew

Post by the red devil » Wed Sep 17, 2008 8:12 pm

:( You may remember my first posting when i discussed the 'thin' taste of my first attempt at grain brewing!
May be a silly question but is it possible/practical/worthwhile boiling this brew up, adding more sugar to bring the OG to around 1050 and re-pitching the yeast to start the primary fermentation again?
Its got good colour and some flavour but best described as a fizzy........

Help!!

No, cut your losses and start from scratch.

I would compare it to making a cake then thinking I don't like that, I'll crumble it up, add some fresh ingredients and hope for the best.

If it's too fizzy, next time use less (or none) priming sugar.

The thin taste won't be "thickened", for want of a better word, by increasing the alcohol content. It's more a combination of several elements such as residual sugar, alcohol, malt, bitterness etc etc. Basically, everything which makes a good pint.
