Damn fruit flies get everywhere.

There seems to be a dead fruit fly floating in the airlock of my currently fermenting batch. How it got there I don't know - the airlock has a cap and the whole vat is inside a fridge!

It's times like this I'm glad I use gin instead of water in the airlock - hopefully that will have killed off any nasties - but, only time will tell - I'm a bit nervous now for this batch. :(

They're a bloody pain alright. We have loads of problems with them here. I generally have to skim them off the top of a pint after I've poured it. Fly paper doesn't seem to work either. Maybe it's time for an industrial bug zapper

The trouble is, those damn flies aren't attracted to UV. I know, I've tried it.

Throw a ripe banana skin in the bottom, and they'll go for it then...

You need one of these. Worth there weight in gold. Especially on a brew day. This one has taken a hammering in the past few months but it still works. Even fruit flies cant escape it. There fairly cheap on Ebay. Theres loads http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trks ... fly+zapper

Subsub - As for fruit flies landing in your beer. Simple solution, place a beermat on top of your glass. There not strong enough to lift it.

I thought fruit fly season had just finished but over the past few days ive had dozens. Odd as my last brewday was Sunday. Just been into the veg cupboard only to find moldy liquefied carrots. binning them should get rid of the little buggers.

Is it now mozzie season? Had loads of these flying around in the past week.
