Lager - when to keg?

Post by Subsonic » Mon Feb 16, 2009 7:23 pm

My lager is going ok and nearly finished, question - when do I keg it? Do I keg it when still cloudy and lager it for a few months? Or let it clear and keg it? Never made a lager so a bit new to this. I don;t use finings btw and have cornies for the kegs. Cheers for any info.

As far as i'm aware, the only real difference between a lager and an ale is the temp it's fermented and matured at. So, if your going to leave it for a few months to lager then I would think it would be fine to keg it now. BTW, I would make sure it gets at least twice as long as a standard ale in the primary before kegging it due to the colder, slower fermenting conditions.
