With 7-8% crystal plus some amber malt I would have thought it would be more light copper coloured? Not thinking of Bishop's Finger by any chance?

In fact I've just checked my old brew log (from '96) and I came up with something very similar myself (but with invert sugar for some reason) and my notes say "copper coloured". :roll:

Hi hollow legs. No its more like a straw colour the only thing i can find as an excuse if the recipe is right i did not get the amber/crystal correct,but it drinks lovely if you were drinking out of a peweter jug you would think it was not a bad clone

Tasting notes on the SN website describe it as "golden" strangley enough. Perhaps you got the amber and crystal mixed up?

I made that one myself, 1st recipe on this page. I agree, it was not as dark as commercial Spitfire, you can see a pic of my clone here.

Still, it was a cracking brew & I had no complaints about it, in fact I like it that much I am brewing another one in the morning.

Hi Horden Hillbilly. Looked at your pic mine is no where near as dark as that mine is more Marc ollossons Styrian Stunner. I aint got a clue where i went wrong other than i did not add one of the dark malts but its a cracking pint.
:wink:

Hi Hollow Legs, Yes getting the dark malts mixed up might be a good point.
Cheers =D>
