I know what you mean - it did feel all wrong, which was why I only did small samples :)

Well its been six days now and its down to 1.015 which according to BeerSmith makes it approx 5.9% !

This beer sure packs a punch on the taste, though I think it will need time to mature to get the best out of it as I personally find the taste too strong at the moment. It sure tastes better after it has been left to breath a little, sample stuck in the fridge for an hour. Could this mean it will mature better ?

For anyone interested the recipe was:

Batch Size: 18.90 L
Boil Size: 22.76 L

4.00 kg Maris Otter (pale)
0.20 kg Carapils
0.20 kg Crystal Light
0.15 kg Chocolate Malt
1.00 oz Challenger (60 min)
1.00 oz Challenger (10 min)
0.50 oz Fuggles (5 min)
1 Pkgs London Ale (White Labs #WLP013)

Yes i think you can be too efficient & believe better beer can be had with less efficiency. About 20 years ago when i started all grain brewing i batch sparged then after a couple of years started fly sparging easily achieving 85 %+ efficiency. About 2 years ago i reverted back to batch sparging i can still easily achieve 75 %+ efficiency but feel i get slightly more body & maltier tasting brews.Cheers :D :D
