Transferring to secondary

Post by adodman » Mon May 04, 2009 10:08 am

My first All Grain has been in the FV for 6 days now. :D

I have read that it should be transferred from this FV into a clean FV for the rest of its primary fermentation. Is there a reason for this? Would it be a problem to leave it for another week and then just transfer it straight into my pressure barrel?

Also, when I transfer it to the pressure barrel do I still prime it the same as I would if it was a kit beer? :?:

Cheers

Most folks here simply go for 10-14 days in the primary. I've experimented with secondary fermenters but never saw any benefit.

That's good, saves me a job for today. Just going to leave it till it's finished and then transfer it to the barrel next week.

When I check the SG, what would I be aiming for that would mean I didn't have to add priming sugar, and is there a level that if it drops to then I would HAVE to add priming sugar, hope this makes sense... #-o

I am used to kit beers and have primed all of my kit beers with 85g granulated sugar.

Thanks once again =D>

Plus it's somewhat difficult knowing precisely what your FG will be...
