Transporting beer in king keg

Post by PaulStat » Tue May 05, 2009 3:54 pm

I'm thinking of making 25L of a bitter for my wedding in August, how would I transport the keg to the venue without ruining the beer? Should I syphon it in to another keg and then gas it up?

I thought about doing the same for my wedding but decided against it, too much to worry about and I'm lining up something special for their free handpull

I cannot see any problem with transporting it but I would suggest it be left to settle before consumption. I would be a little concerned as it would need re-gassing quite a lot. Or if you know anyone near to you who is willing to lend cornies and gas...........

Keep all the beer you can for about six months after you are married, you'll need it

Presumably its going to get drunk in one evening :D . If it is a bitter I reckon you could carefully transfer it a day or so before and re gas it, then just dispense it as it with the top open. Its going to be drunk pretty quick (hopefully) so it won't go off.
If a lager or fizzy beer then you need 'shiney'. But once you are married shiney brew Nrop becomes 'your bit on the side'.... Subsonic.

I have the same problem, I have been asked to brew for a 21st. The problem is I have been given just 30 days to do it in, so that's 2 weeks to ferment and clear, and two weeks to carbonate. Here's what I'm doing.

I ferment the wort, rack to 2nd and add finings, let stand for a week then squirt co2 in barrel to help prevent oxydation and fill with beer. Inject co2 till I dare not inject anymore.

Placing the keg outside at night cools it down and helps it absorb more co2. I give it a squirt every day for the two weeks keeping it as cool as I can.

On the day I take the keg and gas it up with nitrogen, with any look it will work.

I have done this before and it works, but no matter what I do it's going to be a green beer. What I won't have is a yeasty pint ( I hope )
