Using yeast from one brew to the next ?

Post by DC » Thu May 28, 2009 8:56 pm

Hi all, I have just completed my 1st AG brew last weekend viewtopic.php?f=24&t=23646 and was wondering if it would be viable to save some of the lees/sediment from my 1st AG Gob Hoblin brew and maybe use it to start another batch of the same beer or even another brew :?: I have heard people mention harvesting & kidnapping yeast etc  but not sure what that actually works  Just thought I would ask the question as it would be a shame to tip good usable sediment/yeast down the drain if I could store it in the fridge and maybe split it and use it for future brews :!: Any advice on this subject would be greatly received.

PS ! I am really bloody hooked on AG now

Cheers DC

Yep, it's perfectly possible to do this, indeed one recent brew I did I pitched the wort directly onto the sediment left by the previous brew that I kegged the same day and it's turned out fine. You're best off having a read of the yeast forum, lots of info in there.
