When to dry hop?

Post by Hogarth » Fri Jun 19, 2009 11:03 pm

If you know precisely when a beer is going to be drunk, is there an ideal stage to add dry hops to the barrel? I've brewed a beer for the 4th of July -- it's a light, all-Fuggles sort of thing -- and I thought I'd freshen it up with some dry hops for a few days. Should I do it now, or wait until just before the party?

Whats this.....

i thought dry hopping was done in secondary

if it can be done in the barrel that is good as i forgot to dry hop my Old Hooky
it is conditioning nicely, but may benifit from a little extra hoppyness

so are you saying i'm not to late to put a handfull of hops in the keg, obviouly it will need re-gassing after opening, will the beer be ok after re opening the keg?

also do you just leave the hops in till the kegs empty? if they have to be taken out how long do you leave them in for?

some recipes say a few cones or a hand full...does anyone measure out or just a good handfull....i have big hands, good job i like hoppy beer..
