priming stouts

Post by sam c » Thu Jul 30, 2009 9:29 pm

im still waiting for this to unstick itself, hopefully, as it still seems to be stuck at 1.030. ive got some more yeast now but im not sure weather to make up a starter as suggested to me in another thread or just sprinkle on some s-04 and yeast nutrient, wait 15 mins and thenm stir it in, as per stuck fermentation thread? thing is i have no DME to make up a starter.

any way the real question is how much do you guys usually add for priming a stout? i guess its kinda down to preference but tips would be good. it will be bottled. i was thinking about 40 or 50 grams for 19 litres. sound good? its a toasted oatmeal stout.

I was gonna use up some opened light spray malt but was advised against it...

For my 4SoS I used brewers sugar but needed to add 20 odd gram of light as I ran out...

The result is good, but I'm sure sugar on its own will be fine

It was a mix of brewers sugar and light spray malt equalling 85g.

There's a fair pop when the grolsch top is released, but a nice head and bite to the drink... Might drop to 60g next time around tho..

my last brew a pale ale was primed with 85g white sugar and that was a little too carbonated for an ale so i think after your advice i will go for 50 - 60 grams.

cheers
