Put in all the starter?

Post by Hogarth » Sat Sep 19, 2009 9:05 pm

A quick mid-brew question... I made a starter from a vial of WLP002 and a two-litre mini-mash two days ago (on Thursday evening) and have had it running on a stir-plate nearly continuously. Today I popped it into the fridge for a few hours.

The question is, can I tip most of the wort away and just use the stuff at the bottom, or should the whole lot go in? There are still bubbles breaking the surface. I'm worried about tipping away the yeast. Here's what it looks like:

Answers before midnight would be lovely. :D

I throw away the wort then add some fresh wort from the boil [15 mins in]. By the time it`s ready to add it`s working nicely, then put the lot in. Fermentation nomally within 4hrs.

Thanks Dennis, yeah I binned most of it and just used the bottom. Wasn't room in the fermenter for anything more, as it turned out.
