Acid malt - beer engine values
Acid malt - beer engine values
I want to do the Broadside recipe from BYOBRA, so I thought I'd add as a recipe to GW's beer engine. But Acid malt doesn't figure in the Grains list. I want to add it, but don't know any of the values.
Can anyone help?

Re: Acid malt - beer engine values
Promash lists it as 1035 and an EBC of 3
Hop and Grape also lists the EBC as 3-5 EBC

Thanks Garth. But I'm still a bit lost
There's two fields I'm not sure of:
Extract xxx LDX
Fermentability xxx %
I'm trying to work out what my efficiency will be, so I'm guessing that these need to be filled in. I don't know where the 1035 value you gave should go??

Re: Acid malt - beer engine values
Have a look at another grain that's already in the database, and give me an example, that may help further
Yield is given as 75% if that's any help

Re: Acid malt - beer engine values
sorry Jerry, I'm confused as you are,
I think our beer programs speak different languages as nothing there matches up with mine
maybe someone else who has Beer Engine can help you.....

Another point to bear in mind is that acid malt will lower your ph a fair bit. I used it in one of my Broadside attempts and the mash ph was at 4.6 because i treated my liquor with CRS as normal. I would recommend using less of whatever it is you use to reduce alkalinity, but i can't say how much less. The beer I made was for a friend who is still struggling through it. It's a bit naff and it gives him headache's, although I have not tried it myself.

That's something I didn't know. I use 40 ml CRS in 36 L water, so perhaps I'll use 30 ml or so. I must confess that I've never checked the PH.jubby wrote:Another point to bear in mind is that acid malt will lower your ph a fair bit. We are using similar amounts of CRS. It's worth checking your ph as it can make a huge difference if it's not right. I might try 20-25ml CRS, but that's just a guess.
The Gypsum also helps to reduce mash ph whilst increasing calcium levels which is fairly important if you have low calcium content in your water.
