I've never been that stupid either, but supposing someone had, and we'll never know will we  , but I can only guess that the outside of the can would cool quickest as its in contact with the outside temp in the freezer.
thus it would freeze first round the outer surface leaving the inner core temp that bit higher for a short while, thus keeping it liquid.

so when the can expands due to the freezing, and ultimately ruptures, there's still enough umpf behind it for a lager shower inside.

sounds like a brainiac experiment waiting to happen.
go on, try it!

footnote: swmbo (absolutely not me!) left a bottle of something pink and winey in the freezer a friend had brought round warm for them to sup, intending for only a quick chill so they could drink it later. suffice to say after a couple of glasses, she forgot, and we had zinfanfdel flavour peas and sweetcorn for a few days afterwards!

oh, and I store all my beer in the shed.
don't wrap up, just in the shed as is.

only problem is it can be too cold at first to drink, so bottles can be good to bring in to warm a bit first.
at the moment, its pretty much perfect cellar conditioning- halt winter!

Not so far, and we had a pretty bad winter just gone.
only problem was *too* cold beer!

My plan to achieve cellar temperature (rather than using my parent's cellar) is to dig a very small cellar under a shed and lower beer containers into it. The ground should keep it around 15C

How come the beer froze and expanded enough to split the can yet was liquid enough to p1ss all over the inside of the freezer?
I keep all of my beer and white wine in the shed (one of those cheep plastic ones and I have placed it outside in a handy place next the the kitchen door) does not look too much of an eyesore  nothing has frozen on me yet :!:

Beer in a freezer is a different case, Don't do this at home as I believe its illegal  Beer is basically a mixture of water and alcohol to which we have added flavor during the brewing process. Stick it in the freezer at -18 oC and the water part will freeze, expanding at the same time to split the can. The liquid alcohol will then run out (under pressure) all over you peas etc. The stronger the brew, the more free (unfrozen) liquid you will get and the greater the mess. That is unless you cunningly arrange to separate the frozen part of you brew from the liquid part. By the way, don't put a naked flame to the liquid part you have just collected as it will burn like 100+ proof Vodka
Please don't drink it, as I say, i believe its illegal [-X not me who told you.

I store bottles in my shed regularly, make yourself a wee store and insulate with polystyrene insulation and it shouldnt get too cold.
