Four Shades Yeast

Post by Scooby » Fri Oct 23, 2009 12:10 pm

I'm going to brew Four Shades but have limited experience of stouts. I'm not sure what yeast to use I have Fullers, Ringwood, TV3, Yorkshire 2, St Austell plus So4, US05 and Nottingham. Which would be best suited, Cheers.

I went with Nottingham as advised by Garth. I thought it was a strange choice but went with it anyway. It made a really good pint

Same here... Already enough malty complexity, no need for yeasty complexity too.

I'd go for Notts too - it should leave the stout drier.

I only keep the dried yeast for emergencies and just checked the fridge, I don't have any Nottingham so it looks like US05.
