Recipe advice

I'm using recipes from Graham Wheeler's British Ale book. However, I'm consistently achieving far higher yields from the mash than he suggests. E.g. this afternoon I did Jennings Cocker Hoop which should have come out at 1046 but I got 1058. OK, so I could reduce the amount of Malt that I'm using but should I reduce the amount of hops as well?

No. You only need to adjust the hops if you are changing the volume away from whatever was specified. It is your mash efficiency that is higher than that for which the recipes are designed, so you need the same amount of hops per litre.

I can't sleep and I'm fed up, so I am glad to have found something to do at this time of night.

Thanks for the reply. I realised (after I'd posted) that I was asking a silly question. In my defence; I had drunk several bottles of beer which was much stronger than it was meant to be!
