Hi. I was sent this as a bonus with my last delivery of malt.
I have read a little about it and understand that it is a dark ( black) malt extract that is used to either add colour and a little taste or just colour to a brew. i also understand that this can be used after boiling and after fermentation. I imagine it should be used in boiling cooled water in the first instance in order to avaoid potential bugs!
The thing is there are no directions on the bottle that are understandable. My dutch is limited but it just says that it is 9500 EBC and that it has a best before date of whenever.
Can someone tell me how to use it and howw to dose it?
Thanks

It's the stuff Brupaks have on their site - it says on there (http://www.brupaks.com/beersundries.htm) that it's for colour adjustment. No other info than that though. Don't see why it couldn't go into the boil, though it could be harder to judge the outcome. You could try dropping Brupaks a line about it?

Its just a colourant. Unless you have good reason to colour your beer, I would send it back and ask for a jar of Marmite instead.
In the 1990s the EEC made certain types of caramel illegal, on the basis that they might be carcinogenic. At that point, many brewers moved over to using black or chocolate malt in their grist for base colour and used black malt extract for final colour adjustment. You can't really brew with it; just add a few millilitres to darken your brew, should you find the need.
