For some beers its not so much an issue, for instance hop driven beers can usually be recreated well using nottingham or US-05 but there is certainly some recipes that will only really get close to the real thing if you use the right/appropiate yeast. IMO london pride is one of those recipes, if you can't/don't want to arse about with liquid yeast/starters etc then i would second steves recommendation of windsor for more residual body (although it doesn't produce diacetyl that i can detect, unlike the proper fullers yeast).

Thanks Delboy,

I am thinking that I might give it another go with a more suited yeast strain.

[quote="EccentricDyslexic"]Can you get that in smaller packets? My brewlength is only 25l.

not sure what you mean here mate. Get one smack pack of 125 ml and make a starter of 1040 wort. LP is around 1040 so i recon a starter about 600 ml will be enough.

Deebee, its just that the wyeast 1968 costs 5 times the price of so4 it sees- http://www.brewuk.co.uk/store/index.php ... b-ale.html

i thought it did more wort, but looking again it doesnt! There must be a way of reducing the cost?

cheers!

How long will they last if i propergate and split like Jim does? i can justify it if i can get a few brews out of one smack pack over 4-6 months or so...

If it's a single-strain yeast you can probably go on for years so 4 - 6 months should be easily achievable.
Best wishes
