I have just purchased a corney and was wondering the best way to fill it, I was gunna sython brew from primary to a secondary and add the sugar and finings and leave in secondary for a few days and then put into corney or should i not bother with secondary

I always drop my beer into a secondary for about 3 or 4 days to encourage a further fall of suspended yeast then syphon it clear into the Corny. I don't add sugar at all, just carbonate with bottled CO2. This way you get a clear drinkable beer much quicker especially if its a darker beer or stout which seems to mature more quickly anyway. If you add sugar to the Corny you are going to get secondary fermentation with extra sediment falling to the bottom of the keg. Nothing wrong with doing it this way if you have the patience and don't mind your first few pints being somewhat cloudy. I believe that some people chop a bit off the end of the Corny out tube so as to reduce the uplift of sediment from the bottom of the keg. Never tried it myself.

Cheers,
John

Straight from FV to cornie for me and no snipping diptubes, that's just abuse of the poor cornie! Provided you have gas and everything then you can force carbonate and after a week or so you may get a pint or two of cloudy beer but if you've done it right you'll have lovely, clear beer from there on in. Many topics cover this and you also don't say what your serving and carbonating options are.
