Saison & Star Anise

Post by Roger » Fri Mar 05, 2010 5:50 pm

I'm planning on brewing a 23 litre batch of a Saison style beer tomorrow. On a whim I bought a 15g packet of star anise.
How much would be a sensible amount to use? I would assume only about 2 or 3 grammes but could do with a bit of reassurance.
Cheers,
Roger.

I would start off with maybe 3 or 4 stars? Grind it up so theres more surface area. I imagine it would be easy to go overboard.

Yeah I'd go with less is more, especially for the first time brew. I find that even when cooking with it, a little seems to be really pungent.
