the to-brew list!

Post by WishboneBrewery » Mon Mar 08, 2010 9:18 pm

I've not brewed since 6th Feb!
Nothing in FV.
Nothing in the warm cupboard conditioning.
Bottled stocks slowly getting lower!

Moving house very soon, got a hire Floor sander this coming weekend.
Big bugger of a Gas boiling ring just arrived for the new 'garage' ;)

I might have to get a couple more FV's so when I'm actually semi-setup in the garage I can have a brewing frenzy.

I'll need at least 1 Stout, probably 2, a couple of good Pale ales and a couple of Belgian style beers.

Need to brew!!!

I need a blooming warm conditioning cuboard. Half of my recent oatmeal stout are semi carbonated. Like cask ale style levels of carbonation, (no head.... but a wee bit of fizz)

The house is like a freezer, I am sure the poor yeast do not appreciate the changes in temperature. I think I will have to get a stand alone heater running to warm things up

What sorts of belgian type things are you thinking of brewing?

Also I was wondering, I might be wrong but you brewed a stout with Rye malt? If I dont have that mixed up what was it like? Did the Rye malt make a noticable difference?

A Stout with Roasted Rye and Crystal rye, bittered and flavoured with Liberty was a cracker of a stout (other ingredients were pale, caramalt, and Roasted barley). And is most definitely on my list to re-brew :)
I also need a new warm conditioning space once we move, I'll probably have to build a cupboard, I'm going to be able to brew when we move but its going to take time to get my set-up as I want it :|

Belgian style beers would be brewed around WLP500 yeast, something with about a 50:50 Maris Otter to Wheat malt and lager hops maybe something strong and one to glug away at on week nights :)

one idea being...

I suppose our new house is going to be well insulated with central heating and more space so maybe I won't have to build a warm cupboard. I'm most interested to see how the temperature is going to vary in my new garage, I'm hoping for a nice steady temp but I bet I'm wrong!

The next Rye Stout:

Code: Select all

Rye Stout mkII

Fermentable	Colour	lb: oz	Grams	Ratio
Maris Otter	4.25 EBC	8 lbs. 6.0 oz	3800 grams	79.1%
Roasted Barley	1220 EBC	0 lbs. 10.5 oz	300 grams	6.3%
German Roasted Rye Malt	450 EBC	0 lbs. 10.5 oz	300 grams	6.3%
Crystal Rye Malt	150 EBC	0 lbs. 7.0 oz	200 grams	4.2%
Wheat Malt	3.5 EBC	0 lbs. 7.0 oz	200 grams	4.2%

Hop Variety	Type	Alpha	Time	lb: oz	grams	Ratio
Liberty	Whole	4.9 %	60 mins	0 lbs. 1.9 oz	55 grams	50%
Liberty	Whole	4.9 %	15 mins	0 lbs. 1.9 oz	55 grams	50%

Final Volume:	23	Litres

Quite possibly, especially near to door. Furthest from the door, my garage was 8-16 deg C

Have to wait and see, its got a posh insulated sectional roller-shutter door, though the garage is the only un-insulated floor in the house and south facing away from the sun.
