Fullers Hock recipe

I was surprised and delighted to find Fullers Hock in a local-ish free house last night. Apparently, it's now brewed as a seasonal ale. Something to do with CAMRAs long running Mild in May campaign, I presume.

It must be about 30 years since Fullers brewed it regularly [in cask form, anyway]. That would have been the last time I had any! Back then, we used to go out of our way to find a Fullers pub that served it.

It's still a very good beer, and very similar to the original [as far as I remember].

Anyway, I've been looking for a recipe, but haven't managed to turn anything up. Any suggestions?

I notice that on Fullers website, another old favourite - the rarely seen Mr. Harry will be making an appearance, in June. I've not seen that for some years, either.

As I understood it, Mr. Harry used to be brewed [or blended] once a year. I remember it in a few pubs around November time. I always thought that it was named after one of the brewers.

You had to know where to look, to find it. Even then, you needed some luck. The same could be said for Golden Pride [9.0%], which was brewed around the same time of year.

Those recipes for Old Harry and X from 1962 - 4 different pale malts! I wonder if that had more to do with cost or availability, or maybe just what they had lying around at the time?
Nearly 10% flaked maize in there, too. That seems quite a lot.

Some interesting notes on Mr. Harry from The Beerhunter, which says that it contains no sugar or maize. Which makes me think that this is isn't the same as the 1962 recipe.

I was gutted this week when I went into a Fullers pub near work and saw a Hock pump clip on the bar. "Sorry, still conditioning" said the barman. Damn. Won't get a chance to go back until next week and you can guarantee it'll be gone by then! Still, good to see these seasonals in there (quite partial to Fullers) instead of just LP, HSB and Chiswick - had Bengal Lancer in there the week before and that was a fine IPA.
