Hi all,
I'm following this recipe for my first AG brew. One thing that it doesn't mention is taking gravity readings, when to take them and what they should be. Does anyone know?
Sorry if this has been mentioned elsewhere, I couldn't find it...
Cheers

-Before fermentation, after the wort has cooled to around 20cGricey wrote: when to take them
-After fermentation
-Any time in between when you want to know how much fermentation has taken place
That depends entirely on what it is you're brewing and what your grain bill is!Gricey wrote: and what they should be.

Hi Gricey
If you've used 3.5kg Pale male and 250g Crystal and a brew length of 23 litres, according to GW's Beer engine it should be OG 1037 and finish around the 1009 mark. Cheers

But your FG will very much depend on the yeast you use and the temperature range you end up mashing over. Don't get too hung up about an FG a few degrees out/ above as long as it stays the same over a couple of days then the fermentation has finished.
Good luck with your first AG!
