HELP I'M ABOUT TO MASH NOW ( PROBLEM)

Post by fisherman » Sun Sep 19, 2010 9:01 am

Can someone give me help, I filled up my HLT last night and added camden solution as chrisx1 advised on you tube to get rid of flouride and chlorine. This morning I did a alkilinity test which read 75. Normally I do the alkilinity test before the camden is added and it normally resds 125 to 137.So do I dose CRS on camden treated water readings. Or straight from the tap before I add camden. My beer has been dire for months since stopping kits. firstly taking all of the alkilinity out of the water. then overdosing. I AM READY TO MASH PLEASE HELP

Test the water straight out of your tap - it can't have changed since last night. The difference may just be due to variation in the water supply.

I can't see why adding a campden tablet would reduce the alkalinity of your water, though water chemistry is not my strong point (understatement).

There will be natural variation in a water supply, especially if the water comes from different sources ( like reservoirs and boreholes). If the variation is only 10 or 20, don't worry. If it's more, then you'll have to check each time.

Jim,
Where did you get the boiler for the gas hob on your video link, And how many litres does it hold.

It's a converted 33 litre SS stock pot from ebay. It has a kettle element in it as well, as a normal gas hob isn't quite up to getting a good boil going on that volume of liquid.

They used to be sold by Nordic Optical, but I'm not sure who does them now. Someone else will likely to be along soon to supply that information.

Nice size, on my cooker I have a wok ring with burners on the inside and outside it might be just the ticket.

The company behind Nordic, Catering-Service and Catering-Portal that sell these pots is Bergland Handels in Germany. Best thing to do is email Nadine Strobel at

catering-service-fr.berglandfrance@msg.afterbuy.de

There are further details in this thread...

She's very helpful and speaks very good English. If you contact her directly, explain your requirements, she will do you a better price on the pots than buying from the German/French fleabay shops.

Have a look here to get an idea of what they have in, as stock varies...

Yeah, mine sits on a wok ring, but it still won't come up to a decent boil on the gas alone. :(

I'll second that :D
I recently bought two 70L stockpots and a 50L thermo, top quality at a reasonable price.... If you order together it brings down the postage cost too!!
I ordered mine Friday and they were delivered Tuesday!!

Bought a 70L (HLT), 50L (Kettle) and 50L (thermo), just waiting to talk about postage and payment but I have an ongoing email thread with her already.

They'll be sat in the cellar taunting me though until I've worked out exactly what setup I'm shooting for. My other kit is still relatively new, but the Nordics will be my 'proper' fixed installation in the cellar with pumps, H/EX, etc... already got some heavyweight metal shelving from CostCo ready to rock with it :)

BB, what have you done with your Nordics? I am going to have to do probably the same ...
