Is it normal for WLP051 California ale v yeast to stink of sulphur during fermentation.

It really does smell unpleasent.

I had a quick google (yes I am very busy) of this and apparently, yes it is normal.

I brewed with WLP051 at the beginning of the month. Mine also had a stong sulphur smell when fermenting. It's now had 10 days on the yeast and 5 days conditioning in a secondary, and smells great.

How's yours turned out?

Dunno if this is of any relevance but I've just used T-58 - I have no idea what the strain is, but that was hugely sulphurous - lifting the lid made the whole kitchen reek! The smell lessened and a week after bottling its gone. Its probably a different strain but I suspect the characteristic will behave the same and you'll be ok

Yep, WLP-051 smells a bit like a lager yeast during fermentation. The final beer is fine though.
