Bobek

Post by clootie » Wed Jan 04, 2012 6:22 pm

Have cleared out all my supplies except 50g of bobek and some pale malt. Hoping to upgrade my kit do I can start brewing 5 gallon batches (currently messing about with 10 l or so a batch as don't have the kit yet to do bigger). The bobek is vacuum packed 2009 harvest. Is it worth using it or is it best to bin and start over. If worth keeping is there a recipe anyone can think of that would use it up? Re the upgrade my 40th is in a few days and can decide between an ace boiler and a H&G stainless steel pot.

If they're still sealed and they've been kept in the fridge, they'll be absolutely fine. Even if they're open, they might still be ok. If you're worried, just get a couple of cones and rub them between your palms to warm them up and release the oils. If it smells sexy, you're good to go. If it smells like Tesco value cheddar, I wouldn't bother.

Assuming they're OK, just do a single malt, single hop beer with them and the pale malt, you can't really go wrong.

Thanks. Sorry to say they have been stuck in my supplies box under the bed rather than in the fridge or freezer. Have had a bit of a break from brewing the past 12/18 months due to circumstances. Thought of doing a 15 litre batch, single malt, with 30g in at 90 mins and 20g at 15 mins. If beer alchemy is right that would be IBU of around 25 ish
