Beer Temperature?
Beer Temperature?
wHAT temperature should my bottle fridge me? I had a look this morning and its af 50f, I'm worried that it may too cold for conditioning and keeping beer at its best.
Re: Beer Temperature?
Hi!
I keep mine at 10C but 11-13C is 'cellar' temprature....
I have found that keeping it slightly cooler doesn't seem to affect the beer adversely and in summer it helps prevent the beer becoming too warm too quickly...
I have a cellar but its difficult to carry cases of bottles up and down the narrow stairs (its a hatch in the floor of the under stair cupboard) - it is 9C in winter and 15C in summer so its a reasonable compramise for the bottles that wont go in the fridge.
Cheers

Re: Beer Temperature?
Yep, 12c here too.
Most of my beers are british styles and IMHO its a good compromise between being pleasantly cool and yet not masking their flavour, and it works well for conditioning too - as I have to store and condition at the same temperature its the natural answer for me. Maybe if it were lager I'd choose something else, though.
That said, I've heard in the past that beer can keep longer if stored cooler; I don't know anything about that from personal experience though, and since using cornies its not something I've had to worry about. I briefly considered looking into it, in case it preserved freshness and aroma longer, but instead I've decided just to brew more regularly.

Well, lager lives in the lager fridge, at about 3 C. Obviously.Kev888 wrote:Maybe if it were lager I'd choose something else, though.

Re: Beer Temperature?
If my maths is correct I make that about 10c, a little too low for my preference for serving. I go for 13c which I think is around 56f? Don't think it will have detrimental effect on conditioning though as I often cold condition at 0c (32f?) to clear.
If I had all the money I'd spent on brewing... I'd spend it on brewing!

It is too cold for conditioning, but not for storing the beer.Uncle Joshua wrote:wHAT temperature should my bottle fridge me? I had a look this morning and its af 50f, I'm worried that it may too cold for conditioning and keeping beer at its best.
I'm just here for the beer.

My beer fridge is set at 46f, I also keep my soda in there. I usually pull a bottle out a few minutes before I start to drink and it's at the right serving temp by the time I get to it.

Re: Beer Temperature?
My cellar is currently 10c and that is too cold for perfect drinking, 2nd 1/2 of a pint is always better at this temp. A few more days like today though and I might be more worried about too warm. My Spring Pale Ale, Rhythm Of The Rain (Cascade hops only) has just been bottled and I can't wait to have my first one sitting in the Spring sunshine
