Maple syrup in brewing??

Hi all iam thinking on brewing an American Brown ale and iam thinking on using maple syrup in this brew.Has anyone used maple syrup in brewing? if so what kind of flavours did you get in the finished product? i have never even tasted maple syrup before, but i thought it would be a bit diffrent to the norm.

I have tried a few brews with maple syrup added after primary - if you like the maple flavour it seems to work well in darker brews...

I would strongly suggest that try some syrup before brewing with it incase you don't like the taste.
It is not to everyones liking...

When buying syrup the darker grades will provide more flavour which is what you want for adding to a brew.
Beware of cheap syrups that are sugar syrups with added flavourings (artificial) and preservatives
As with anything we add post fermentation READ THE LABEL

Weird, I thought of doing this the other day. It does have quite a distinctive taste but I love the stuff.

Holt's do a bottled beer called Maple Moon. You can get it in Morrison's and I think it's quite nice. Might be an idea to try that before you use it in a beer. A quick Google threw this discussion up, which you might find useful. If I was going to do it, priming with it would definitely be the way I'd go.

Thanx guys i will deffo buy one bottle of that Holt's ale it should give me some idea what iam aiming for.I will post when i have brewed it, i will wait though till autumn before i brew it.Thanx again
