Checked my last brew and it's a bit on the warm side.
Started yesterday at 3:00 when i pitched yeast. checked after 24 hours and not much of a head and the tub was a bit warm.
Left covers off to cool.
Will it recover? if yeast dies can i re-pitch? (used SO-4).
hot fermentation
Re: hot fermentation
s04 can be a bit slow to form a head, you should see one develop by tomorrow.
What temp did you pitch at? If too high then the yeast may have died. If so re-pitch some more.
What temp was it 'fermenting' at? What is the batch size?

Re: hot fermentation
Be fine, S-04 i have found to be fairly resilient and unless it was over 30c it should be ok, I've pitched once or twice at that temp by accident and it came to life quite quickly and did the job just fine. Depends, how hot is hot?
Re: hot fermentation
Thanks Guys,
Will check again today. There is some action because you get the familiar ‘smell’.
Was in a bit of a hurry when I pitched the yeast so didn’t check temp.
Batch size is 18lt with the OG around 1052.
I have had this ‘heat-up’ scenario before but always got a good head and final result.
I’ll check gravity tomorrow as three days with So4 normally brings it down a long way.
Keep you informed.

Re: hot fermentation
You're supposed to pitch when the wort is cooling through 30c anyway.darkonnis wrote:Be fine, S-04 i have found to be fairly resilient and unless it was over 30c it should be ok, I've pitched once or twice at that temp by accident and it came to life quite quickly and did the job just fine. At 18l the fermentation won't be generating much heat. Did you take a temp reading? What is it? Are you using an aquarium heater or anything?
Re: hot fermentation
Not checked the temp. did do a check on the gravity and it's already down to 1015
seems it's another case of SO4 working quickly.
Do use a heater to regulate temp but did check it before it started.
i guess i panicked wheni did not see a head but i guess it came and went.
