Bottle carbonation
Bottle carbonation
I have been having real problems getting my bottles to carbonate. I add 2-3g of caster sugar (dissolved in water) to the conditioner before bottling and half the time my bottles are not carbonated enough, or at all sometimes. Can someone offer some advice on this?

Re: Bottle carbonation
Can you give us a little more information on what you have actually done to help pinpoint the ptoblem?
Assuming that you have got no problems with the brew itself and you have sanitised everything properly the standard approach is to do as you have done and first of all warm condition, anything from 1 week to 4 (room temp in the 18-20 range would do) and then to cold condition for another week.
I like to use a dedicated fridge for this in the warmer months and have it set around 4-5c. Follow that regime and you should have no problems. If you want to be more precise then brewing software like Brew Mate (free) or BeerSmith2 (around £18) will calculate for you the right proportions of priming sugar and the time & temps you need.

Re: Bottle carbonation
Just to confirm, you do mean 2-3g per bottle, and not 2-3g for the whole batch?
